Unlike the VQ35DE, the VQ35HR comes from the factory with a much more efficient intake setup—dual throttle bodies, better intake ports, and a higher rev ceiling. But the exhaust side was largely unchanged and remains just as restrictive. The factory manifolds still use short runners and tight collectors that limit flow and hold the engine back. That makes long tube headers one of the most effective mods you can bolt on to the HR platform if you’re looking for real, usable power gains.
By eliminating the stock manifolds and catalytic converters in one go, this setup dramatically improves scavenging, reduces backpressure, and lets the engine breathe like it should. After tuning, dyno gains of 20-28 horsepower have been recorded from this mod alone—even without supporting upgrades.
While header and test pipe combos can deliver good results, a true long tube design takes things further. With full-length runners and properly tuned collectors, power increases across the entire RPM range—especially through the midrange and top end where the HR truly shines.
Each header is built from 304 stainless steel and TIG-welded for maximum strength and reliability. 1 5/8-inch diameter runners up top feed into a 2.5-inch collector at the bottom, merging exhaust gases smoothly into your Y-pipe. A 15/32-inch thick flange ensures a leak-free seal at the cylinder head that won’t warp under heat and pressure. Everything bolts directly from the engine to the Y-pipe—no extra adapters, no compromise.
